Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) Specialist

Role Summary: The DRR Specialist will lead and support institute’s technical advisory, capacity building, training and research services to clients on climate risk reduction, resilience building, and disaster preparedness, with a focus on community-based approaches. The expert will lead DRR training courses, offer tailored professional development, and contribute to research and knowledge products.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop Disaster Risk Reduction strategies and community action plans.
  • Coordinate early warning system initiatives.
  • Train local governments and CSOs on Disaster Risk Reduction.
  • Support integration of Disaster Risk Reduction into development plans.
  • Lead training activities and workshops on disaster preparedness.
  • Facilitate Disaster Risk Reduction courses targeting practitioners and decision-makers.
  • Document and publish DRR lessons learned, case studies, and policy briefs.

Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in Disaster Management, Environmental Science, or related fields (PhD is an asset).
  • 3 years of experience in DRR and resilience work.
  • Familiarity with Sendai Framework and DRR tools.
  • East Africa experience is preferred.
