Biography

Nelson has 10+ years of progressive experience in forestry governance, nature-based climate adaptation, carbon market readiness, and stakeholder engagement. He previously served as a Forestry Officer with Uganda’s Ministry of Water and Environment, where he supported multi-stakeholder coordination for REDD+ implementation, the development of carbon market regulations, and reforms in collaborative forest management.

Nelson also has experience from the non-profit sector, having led environmental programs at Safe Space Network and Universal Love Alliance, with a focus on youth empowerment, ecosystem restoration, and human rights advocacy. He currently is a research fellow with the Africa Research Impact Network and is pursuing a PhD in Environmental Management and Control at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.

His doctoral research explores the implementation of the Paris Agreement in Africa and its implications for advancing the continent’s clean energy transition. Nelson holds an MSc in Forestry and Biodiversity Management and a BSc in Conservation Forestry and Production Technology from Makerere University, Uganda.
